Gloucestershire ready to recruit again

Tuesday, 7 January 2014

Following the closure of drive to recruit officers in 2010 due to budget cuts, Gloucestershire Police have announced that they are to recruit 24 new officers to the force over the next year.

Having emerged from the streamlining process, Chief Constable Suzette Davenport stated that "As we've gone through that reorganisation we have established a specific number of police officers, staff members and PCSOs and we've got to a stage where we are below that number, and therefore we want to recruit officers into the force off the streets, rather than transferees from other forces". As the force has "successfully reshaped" following the budget cuts in 2010 the force is now in a position to begin expansion

However, since 2010 the starting salary for a police officer was £23,000, this figure has now dropped to £19,000. "However, I believe it's a privilege to be a police officer and the right people will find it a hugely rewarding experience.
